With one of the country's biggest music festivals - Electric Picnic in Stradbally, County Laois - kicking off this weekend, this week's TOTW examines the legal basis behind fairs and markets.
Fair:
It has been held that any person who would have an entitlement to benefit from a fair or market is entitled to maintain the appropriate proceedings to enforce that right; if a public right to a fair or market can be said to attach to a particular area of land, then the court has jurisdiction to enforce such an entitlement by way of an injunction: Listowel Livestock v Bird & Sons [2007] IEHC 360; [2008 HC] 2 ILRM 139.
